During their last meeting of the year, Forsyth County commissioners discussed several items, including new sheriff’s vehicles, grants and some final items for the county’s new jail and courthouse. The board:

• Authorized the purchase of six new vehicles for the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. The $183,000 for the purchase was moved from the department’s 2016 budget to 2017

• Accepted the 2016 Family Treatment Court Grant from the state for an amount not to exceed $100,851 with an in-kind match not to exceed $11,206

• OK’d applying for the state’s 2017 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant for an amount not to exceed $2,162,366.54 with a required match of up to $648,709.62

• Approved an agreement with Forsyth County Schools’ Office of College and Career Develop-ment to become a career path partner for the district’s Workforce Forsyth program.

• Moved forward with the purchase of two new emergency communication trailers for E-911 and the installation of radio equipment in them. The trailers will be purchased from Mobile Satellite Technologies for $205,500 and the equipment from Motorola Solutions for $233,400

• Adopted on a time-sensitive basis new definitions and regulations for self-service storage es-tablishments. The change involves differentiating between climate-controlled indoor storage centers, which have become popular, and traditional outdoor storage

• Approved a settlement with Turner Construction Company and the Winter Construction Com-pany and a change order, both tied to the new jail and courthouse project. The change order is worth just less than $265,000, and the total project was under budget by $519,000.
