A Forsyth County grand jury indicted a man for reportedly attempting to break into an ATM at the gas station where he worked.
Zachary Wiley Akins faces counts for second-degree criminal damage to property and criminal attempt to commit theft in connection with a July 18 incident where he is accused of trying to force open an ATM cassette and dispenser at the ECO Car wash on Market Place Boulevard, according to records.
The damage to the cassette was estimated at around $500, while the dispenser was thought to have an estimated value of between $1,800 and $2,000, according to a witness statement in a Cumming Police Department report.
A nighttime manager at the store reportedly told the owner Akins, while in his capacity as an employee, tried to break into the on-site ATM.
Akins reportedly denied the claim, saying the ATM door was open and that he tried to fix it.
Forsyth County Superior Court Judge David L. Dickinson is presiding over the case, for which no trial date has been set.
