CUMMING -- A 37-year-old man was recently indicted in Forsyth County in connection with a three-vehicle accident and hit and run in April that put one person in the hospital.
Jay Bradley Sanders, of Madison, Georgia, faces eight counts, hit and run, fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
He was also charged with possession of methamphetamine, tampering with evidence, obstruction of an officer and driving on a suspended license.
Sanders reportedly fled from a traffic stop on April 7, speeding through a red light at Buford Highway and Ronald Reagan Boulevard, according to an incident report.
A Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputy had initiated the stop after he ran the tag on Sanders’ green Ford Mustang and it came back as registered, but expired, to a 2003 Ford truck.
As the Mustang went through the light against the signal, it struck a Toyota Corolla that was in front of it, knocking it into a motorcycle that had started through the intersection.
Although the motorcycle flipped, knocking the rider off, he was not injured. The female driver of the Toyota was hospitalized with what were described at the time as non-life threatening injuries.
As soon as the Mustang wrecked, Sanders reportedly jumped out and tried to run away, entering the woods near the Hampton Inn. He was detained less than 10 minutes later.
Deputies reportedly found Sanders had discarded meth as he fled.
A passenger in the Mustang, a 38-year-old female from Gainesville, was arrested at the time on outstanding warrants for probation violation in Hall, Jackson and Habersham counties.
Forsyth County Superior Court Judge David L. Dickinson is presiding over the case. No trial date has been set.
