CUMMING – The final inmate who escaped from a jail in Tennessee on Christmas Day was captured off Exit 14 of Ga. 400 in Cumming Wednesday afternoon.

David Frazier, 55, along with five other inmates, fled from the Cocke County Jail Annex in Newport, Tennessee, early Sunday morning, according to multiple reports from media outlets in Tennessee.

Frazier had been awaiting trial for aggravated robbery and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon before his escape.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office aided the U.S. Marshals Service in the capture, said Cpl. Pete Sabella, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

“Mr. Frazier was located in the parking lot of the BP gas station located at 901 Buford Hwy,” he said. "[He] had been camping in the wooded area behind the store.”

The fugitives reportedly used a water leak behind a toilet to make their escape and took advantage of the toilet’s rusted-out bolts to kick in the concrete wall and remove the toilet.

From there, they fled through the hole in the wall and jumped over the jail’s fence, reports said.

Newport is more than 130 miles from Forsyth.

Frazier was taken into custody about 12:20 p.m. Dec. 28 and transported to the Forsyth County Jail, where he awaits extradition back to Tennessee, Sabella said.

Both the sheriff’s office and the Marshals Service have not released how Frazier reached Forsyth County.
