GSCU scholarships

South Forsyth High School seniors received three of the top seven scholarships awarded by Georgia College and State University to attend the school in fall 2017.

They were selected out of 101 invited to attend the President’s Scholarship Competition, the university’s annual scholarship event for prospective first-year students.

Laura Cavalenes was one of three to receive the Trustee Scholarship, the competition’s top award, for $24,000 over her four years to be used in addition to her Zell Miller Scholarship.

Her scholarship also includes a study abroad stipend to be used whenever she decides to sign up for a trip, admission to the Honor’s Program and a space in Bell Hall, the university’s residence hall with the “best location immediately next door to the academic buildings, library, dining hall and across the street from downtown Milledgeville,” according to Judy Hollandsworth, a 12th grade British literature teacher and instructional coach at South.

The two other students who received scholarships were Matt Patterson and Kendyl Lewis. They were chosen along with two others to receive the Presidential Scholarship for $16,000 over their four years to be used in addition to their Zell Miller Scholarships.

They will also receive a study abroad stipend, Honor’s Program acceptance and a spot in Bell Hall.
