CUMMING – Two people were displaced from their home near Lake Lanier in Cumming Tuesday night after they arrived to the residence and found it in flames.

The two adults who lived at the home, which was located at 1180 Wood Valley Road off Buford Dam Road, called 911 about 9:45 p.m. Jan. 10, Forsyth County Fire Department Division Chief Jason Shivers said.

“The residents came home to find the home on fire; it had been burning for some time,” Shivers said. “The fire had consumed most of interior of home when we arrived and is considered a total loss.”

Four engines, one ladder truck, two battalion chiefs and ambulance responded to the fire, accumulating about 20 personnel.

Shivers said the main floor of the single-story home had mostly collapsed into the basement by the time the fire was contained.

While no injuries were reported, the residents are feared to have lost a dog and a cat in the fire, Shivers said.

As of noon Wednesday, fire investigators were on scene, though Shivers said it is too early to tell whether the blaze is suspicious in origin or not.
