FORSYTH COUNTY – Forsyth County Schools administration is planning for Tuesday, Jan. 10 to be a normal school day and said parents, students and staff should know by 7 p.m. Monday if that plan changes due to winter weather.

Public schools in Forsyth were closed Monday, Jan. 9 due to icy roads that hung around after winter weather blanketed the area in snow and ice Friday night and Saturday morning.

The district made the decision to have Monday be an online learning day when they realized many roads were unsafe for “bus, staff and student travel.”

Forsyth County Schools nixed snow days from its calendar in 2015, opting for students to use an online learning system called itslearning that allows classes to continue remotely.

The district used the asynchronous – meaning not at the same time – virtual learning portal for the first time on a grand scale in January 2014 when school was out for several days due to snow, ice and cold temperatures.
