SOUTH FORSYTH -- Forsyth County is giving the community a chance to give their opinion on the widening of a major south Forsyth road.

On Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Lanier Technical College Forsyth Conference Center, an open house will be held for a proposed widening of McGinnis Ferry Road. The open house will have plans on display and be informal, meaning attendees can come or go at any time.

“An informal open house of this nature is meant to inform residents and allow for more opportunities to answer individual questions. We look forward to speaking with county residents and sharing the proposed plans,” Forsyth County Director of Engineering John Cunard said in a news release.

The proposal would widen about 4.5 miles of the road between Sargent Road and the intersection of Ronald Reagan Boulevard and Union Hill Road and calls for two lanes in each direction with a 10-foot wide multi-use path on the north side of the road and a 5-foot-wide sidewalk along the south.

Following the open house, displays used at the meeting can be viewed at the county’s engineering department in the county administration building at 110 E. Main Street through Friday, Jan. 20.

Forsyth County is overseeing the project's’ design with the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the cities of Johns Creek and Alpharetta will handle plan review and comments.

The county is also paying $18.1 million for the widening out of the $200 million transportation bond approved by voters in 2014. GDOT will contribute $10 million.
