Northeast Georgia Health System, which has hospital campuses in Gainesville and Braselton, has now acquired Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder.

GAINESVILLE - Northeast Georgia Health System is ringing in the new year with another campus.

Gainesville-based NGHS announced Thursday that it had reached an agreement to acquire Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder effective Saturday, one minute before the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

NGHS President and Chief Executive Carol Burrell welcomed the opportunity for growth by adding Barrow Medical Center and Barrow Medical Group to the healthcare conglomerate.

“For the last several years, we have been working to ensure that patients in our area can easily access our extensive healthcare network, closer to home, when they need it,” Burrell said in a statement released late Thursday. “The addition of NGMC Barrow and the new NGPG physician offices further increases coordination of care for people in Barrow County.”

News that the two organizations were negotiating a deal that would allow NGHS to acquire Barrow Medical began circulating in October. At the time, Barrow CEO Chad Hatfield said the move would help Barrow hospital’s financial stability and operations.

Hatfield was happy to officially announce the deal Thursday.

“Barrow Regional Medical Center has been an important part of the community for 65 years,” Hatfield said. “We are very excited to join the NGHS network of health resources which will support and expand patient care at all levels.

Eight physicians and four locations now with Barrow Medical Group will fall under the Northeast Georgia Physicians Group on Jan. 1 as part of the transaction. Switching over to NGPG will be Dr. Calvin Terrelonge, formerly of Bethlehem Primary Care in Bethlehem, Ga.; Drs. Ling Li and C.J. Rolison IV, formerly of Barrow Medical Group; Dr. Devin Stephens, formerly of Barrow; Dr. Kabita Regmee, formerly of Barrow Primary Care; and Drs. Altaf Tadkod, Derrick Sims and Dhudr Burjak, hospitalists who see patients at Barrow hospital.

Barrow becomes NGHS’ third hospital campus, joining the flagship hospital campus in Gainesville and the campus in Braselton.

Braselton campus CEO Anthony Williamson told The Times in October that the hospital in South Hall near Barrow County has “seen volumes increase rapidly,” since opening in April 2015.
